San Diego County Fair Food Review: Pulled Pork Mac & Cheese Melt

One new menu item at the San Diego County Fair that had previewers licking their lips was the Pulled Pork Mac and Cheese Melt from the Grilled Cheese A-Fair (Del Mar Diner). This jacked up grilled cheese has tender pulled pork with a serving of creamy macaroni and cheese between two slices of sourdough bread.

The combination of flavors works so well together and the serving size is considerable. The bread came out perfectly crispy too. We give the pulled pork mac and cheese melt two thumbs up, way up.

If pulled pork is not your thing or if you are looking for a vegetarian option, try the Temecula Wine Country sandwich with brie, Swiss cheese, apricot jam, dijonaise spread and sliced apples on cinnamon raisin challah bread, or the South of the Border sandwich with pepper jack cheese, jalapeño spread, pico de gallo and avocado on sourdough bread.

All sandwiches from the Grilled Cheese A-Fair come with French fries and are priced $7 to $9.

There are more than two dozen new food items at the San Diego County Fair this year. Read about one new food item on Patch each day. We've already covered bacon beer, strawberry cheesecake funnel cake and bacon cotton candy.

The San Diego County Fair runs June 8 through July 4 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The Fairgrounds are located at 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd., Del Mar.
