10 DUI Arrests on Del Mar Races Opening Day

Twenty-five people were evaluated on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Authorities arrested 10 drivers on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol in the areas surrounding the Del Mar Race Track on opening day Wednesday.

From 4 p.m. to midnight, a team of 21 sheriff's deputies and officers from San Diego County law enforcement agencies made traffic stops near the track in Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas and San Diego.

The team made 111 traffic stops and evaluated 25 drivers for possibly driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Ten of those drivers were arrested. Another three drivers were allegedly caught driving on suspended licenses, and one was said to be driving without a license.

Officers also issued 45 traffic citations.
