Make Tracks to Distance Festival on Thursday at Cathedral Catholic High

All ages from kindergarten to senior citizens are welcomed at first in series of winter track meets.

Track season is in spring, but a Winter Track Series for San Diegans of all ages begins Thursday with the Distance Festival at Cathedral Catholic High School.

Paul Greer, a local coach who once ran a sub-4-minute mile, says the series includes meets Dec. 1 at San Diego State University, Jan. 26 at Montgomery High School and Feb. 2 at Mt. Carmel High School. The final event is Feb. 9  at Mt. Miguel High School in Spring Valley.

Thursday’s meet at the Del Mar Heights Road private school is open to the public and charges $3 for grade-schoolers and $5 for high school runners and older.

Events begin with an 800-meter run for kindergarten girls and last until around 8:40 p.m. with a 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) run open to all ages. See attached PDF for the tentative schedule. An open mile also is planned.
