Ocean Air Elementary Wins 2013 National Blue Ribbon School Award

The awards recognize high-level performance or improvement in students' academic achievement.

Ocean Air Elementary School in Carmel Valley has been announced as one of 15 state winners of the 2013 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award.

“These schools are wonderful illustrations of the work we do here in California schools to prepare our students to thrive in the world they will find outside of our classrooms,” State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson said in a statement. “I am proud to see them held up as national examples.”

The U.S. Department of Education selected 236 public and 50 private schools for the awards, which recognize high-level performance or improvement in students' academic achievement. The schools will be honored at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. in November.

Of the 15 California schools chosen for the honor, two are in San Diego County: Ocean Air and Torrey Pines Elementary School in La Jolla.
