Sacramento Gun-Control Efforts Are ‘as Bad as It Gets,’ NRA Activist Says

Santee resident Michael Schwartz says: “If you’re sitting here and not a member of the NRA, there’s no excuse.”

Gun-control bills pending in Sacramento are “as bad as it gets,” a San Diego NRA activist told a meeting this week of county Republican officials.

Michael Schwartz of the National Rifle Association, reporting on last month’s efforts to defend the Del Mar gun shows, said: “Your Second Amendment rights are about to be taken away from you.”

Schwartz noted a package of 10 proposals in the state Assembly and Senate that would ban hollow-point bullets, expand the list of banned assault weapons and lead to “100 percent gun registration.”

“The only reason you register guns is for taxation and confiscation,” Schwartz told about 200 people attending the monthly meeting Monday of the county Republican Party Central Committee at the Rancho Bernardo Inn.

Updating GOP members on the letter-writing campaign on behalf of the Del Mar gun shows, he said it went “fantastically well,” with several groups joining the campaign—generating about 500 letters.

It didn’t change many minds, he said, but “the value of the letter was [public relations].”

In Sacramento, 10 bills target guns, including one authored by Sen. Marty Block, a Democrat who represents San Diego from Del Mar south to Coronado.

Block’s bill prevents unregulated gun loans, with exceptions, including hunting, according to the Oakland Tribune.

Schwartz acknowledged the likelihood of these measures being approved, given the Democratic supermajority in Sacramento. He urged Republicans to fund the groups that will take these measures to court.

And he sought more donations to the NRA.

“If you’re sitting here and not a member of the NRA, there’s no excuse,” he said. “It’s a fight against tyranny. … If you don’t own a firearm, the clock’s ticking.”

He urged the mostly white and middle-aged audience to “be a part of a well-regulated militia,” and gave advice on how to argue against gun-control efforts.

Schwartz, a Santee resident, said guns are needed to help the government in the event of an armed attack on America.

“Say you don’t have a gun,” he began. “What would you do? ‘My crazy neighbor’s got some guns. I’ll go over to his house.’

“And the neighbor would say: Look, I got two kinds of guns here. I’ll give you a revolver—it’s got six shots. … Or I’m going to give you an AR-15 with a … 30-round magazine.

“Which would you go in the militia with?

He said: “That’s what the Second Amendment is about. Try that angle.”

More rights are being taken away by the savage and war criminal in the oval office When can we expect our employees in the senate such as boxer , Feinstein and Pelosi to be drug tested as they work for us and we should know how impaired these misfits of society really are What kind of brain dead moron would sign a blank piece of paper hand it to a lawyer to fill it in and then told once the bill passes you can see what is in it? We need treason trials and have the military escort the senate and congress out into a field and justice performed for those that are proven guilty of not following the oath they took to defend this nation IMHO

James Jones February 14, 2013 at 10:18 PM
@Just: The difference between those weapons and firearms legal to be owned by citizens is uncontrollable collateral damage. There is no comparison. It's one of the many dishonest arguing tactics used by Progressives.

If the democraps were really concerned about violence against women the morons on the left coast would make it a lot easier for women to have a firearm (with training) as an oder of protection is what many women were buried with still grasping in their cold dead hands When a lady is being attacked and about to be raped she can dial a prayer and dial 911 both will arrive way to late Only the left coast mentality and the least coast do not see less crime in the mid west because free people do not need government permission to defend their loved ones and their home As a disabled vet I know the price my fellow vets paid for maintaining freedom in a country that seems to forget some paid the ultimate price
Doug Curlee February 15, 2013 at 01:19 AM
sorry you're a disabled vet..but from reading your posts, i have to ask this.. were you hit in the head, by any chance? doug

@Steve: Only partly true. NRA Headquarters employees are allowed to carry. Visitors to the museum and to the gun range can. Visitors to the building cannot.
Ron Selkovitch February 15, 2013 at 03:55 AM
Sylvan, its a pity you can't ask Adam Lanza's mother if she was safer. She had the guns and the training. And I'll take Democrats any time for a safer gentler society.
James Jones February 15, 2013 at 06:17 AM
Simple question, gun control advocates: Why do the cities with the strictest gun control laws have the highest gun violence rates? I'm a "gun nut" and probably "insane" so I need a Progressive to explain it to me. I await your answer..........

Jimmy Carter democrap was the cause of our allies in Iran to flee Vietnam thank you peace loving democraps. for starting a "police action" that could never be won the way it was handled The Clinton regime of mass murders of unarmed citizens and non citizens and Hellery called NYC police "murders" before any indictment or trial Yes the demcraps the party of love and peace and understanding Whore mongers Sptizer . Keendy's , Mc Sveevy of NJ . Wild Bill (Bubba) Clinton plus the demcrap women like the chimpanzee in the oval office are indeed the butt ugly Americans Janet Reno , Feinstein , HELLery Clinton , Boxer , Albright, Pelosi , Mrs chimp HO in the oval office If these women were around a swimming pool it would be known as the bay of pigs We need to "spread the wealth" with a 25% Gross income tax so we can send more fighters to Egypt a nation that we all know is very trust worthy . We need to get rid of all borders, after all how can we be a "citizen of the world" if we keep our fellow citizens out? The USA has amazing health care for the veterans so much so the Savage suggested all disabled vets should get private healthcare and not burden society with their wounds.

Alwin Roe February 17, 2013 at 09:32 PM
If you take a cold hard look at the State of CA's gun laws, you'll realize that despite ratifying the US Constitution, the government has effectively seceded from the union, with the sheer amount of infringements. In all of California's major urban areas, you are legally prohibited from effective self-defense in public, unless you bribe...um, campaign contribute to the county sheriff. CA is a criminals' utopia, full of effectively defenseless victims ripe for the picking, rendered as such by a pro-criminal safety/anti-public safety government.
Alwin Roe February 17, 2013 at 09:37 PM
It is a meme in the civil rights movement that any pro-civil rights proposition will fail spectacularly in CA, as history repeats itself. Conversely, should we then expect any anti-civil rights ballot initiative to pass, just as Prop H in San Francisco did?
Alwin Roe February 17, 2013 at 09:43 PM
Please don't feign ignorance of the sheer amount of civil rights infringements in CA. There need to be at least a dozen federal lawsuits to strike them down, and then another dozen once the government defendants lose and resort to contempt, as DC and Chicago have.
Jim Minton February 18, 2013 at 04:53 AM
What are you talking about? When did we compromise the Bill of Rights? Libi, you do not have the right to freedom of speech anymore. The only time you can talk now is on wednesday's at noon and only in the lunch room, okay? Compromise what? We have already compromised ourselves so much we now have an unashamed marxist in the White House. Please take your rhetoric ad nauseum someplace else! Oh wait, that would violate your first ammendment.. Now do you you get it?
Jim Minton February 18, 2013 at 05:11 AM
Ron, I don't think you have any evidence that proves Dems provide a "safer, gentler" society! Of course, I much rather prefer the demwits follow the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights and respect states rights, but then that goes against their state control philosophy. Of course, when you say "gentler" you don't include the 51million abortions cause by Democrats stuck Roe V Wade (again an attack on states rights) since 1963 or most of the lives lost in Vietnam were under President Johnson? instead of disarming law abiding citizens, we would see that most of the mass shootings or terrorists attacks done in this country were by those doing prescriptions drugs illegally. But lets not let the facts get in the way of this discussion..

Do you guys actually think criminals going to follow any of these laws? That's what I thought.
Ken Stone February 20, 2013 at 06:25 PM
Criminals don't obey speed limits either. Should we not have them?
Kevin George February 20, 2013 at 06:46 PM
Yes, we should have speed limits. But should we take cars away from those that obey the speed them?
Kevin George February 20, 2013 at 07:18 PM
Ooops "But should we take cars away from those that obey the speed limit?"
Things I Learned February 20, 2013 at 11:05 PM
We should ban assault-type cars that can spray mph every time you touch the pedal. Military style pinstriping has no place on our roads roads we ALL pay for. And surely the founders never anticipated hi-cap fuel tanks that let these maniacs just keep going and going putting our brave police officers and vulnerable women and children at risk. "Keep on Trucking" sounds goods until you think about what it means in terms of real human live
Sylvan Tieger February 21, 2013 at 02:33 AM
This is why fro the second time in my life I love America.. Helping deserving people get their "fair share" WE need to tax anyone making $25,000 gross or more a year to help other fine citizens of this amazing country http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPRtIOmPOD0
Don Mortensen February 24, 2013 at 03:05 AM
guns laws only work if the people choose to obey them and I know I will not and never will we got to have the same weapons as the corrupt people making the laws they are the criminals here
