San Diego Man Struck and Killed as a Pedestrian on I-5 in Downey

The body of Mark Phrakousonh, 21, was found on the freeway near the Rio Hondo River around 4:15 a.m. Thursday

Authorities today identified a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle and killed on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway in Downey in Los Angeles County.

The body was found on the freeway near the Rio Hondo River around 4:15 a.m. Thursday, said California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos.

The man was identified as Mark Phrakousonh, 21, of San Diego, said coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

All northbound lanes north of Paramount Boulevard were closed for about two hours while an investigation was conducted. It was unclear what the man was doing on the freeway, according to the CHP.
