Computers Stolen in ‘Frustrating’ Back-to-Back Carmel Valley Burglaries

Three desktop computers were taken from Ocean Air Elementary School early Monday morning.

One weekend it was laptops, the next desktop computers.

Back-to-back burglaries in the Del Mar Union School District have school officials concerned, but police said they don't believe there is a crime series underway.

Around 2 a.m. Monday, three desktop computers were taken from the computer lab of Ocean Air Elementary School on Canter Heights Drive, Del Mar Union Superintendent Holly McClurg said.

McClurg said the window-smashing break-in tripped the school's alarm system. No children were present Monday, she said, but staff and crews were onsite for cleaning.

Police said they don't have any suspects.

Monday's thefts come a week after two laptops were stolen from the main floor of the district office on El Camino Real. In the early hours of Sunday, June 30, someone broke windows at the office and took the laptops, McClurg said.

The San Diego Police Department noted the incident on its Facebook page.

McClurg said she does not believe student information is at risk because of the burglary.

"I don't anticipate that any of that type of information would be taken from either of these two computers," she said.

The superintendent said she doesn't believe the crimes are part of a pattern, but "having two back-to-back is frustrating."

"It is concerning to have the vandalism and the theft," she said.
