Amtrak Train, Truck Collide in Sorrento Valley Halting Service

The accident at approximately 3 p.m. Thursday caused officials to halt train service through the area.

An Amtrak train struck a commercial truck in Sorrento Valley Thursday, injuring at least two people and halting late-afternoon trains through the coastal area.

The northbound locomotive struck the big rig at Sorrento Valley Road and Sorrento Valley Boulevard shortly after 3 p.m., knocking it off the tracks and sending it toppling onto its side, according to San Diego police.

Medics tended to several occupants of the truck who were complaining of pain, police public affairs officer Jim Johnson said.

The severity of their injuries was not immediately clear.

According to the train conductor, no rail passengers were hurt in the crash, Johnson said.

Train service through the area was on hold until further notice.
