Hispanic-Mexican Restaurant and Tequileria Coming to Del Mar Plaza

El Agave Restaurant and Tequileria is scheduled to open in the Plaza Level of Del Mar Plaza in November.

El Agave Restaurant and Tequileria is expanding north. The Hispanic-Mexican restaurant, based in Old Town San Diego, is scheduled to open a location in Del Mar Plaza in November.

The restaurant will be El Agave's third in San Diego. It will serve lunch and dinner and more than 2,000 tequilas.

The menu is inspired by the cooking styles of ancient cultures, including the Aztecs and Mestizos, it said. Menu items include enchiladas, tacos, tamales and entrees such as ahi tuna breaded in almonds, pine nuts, rosemary and basil in a bittersweet tamarindo, chile arbol and tomato sauce with rice and steamed veggies; and a pork chop served with three chili sauces (gaujillo, acho and pasilla) and potatoes and a mixed salad.

"We've been waiting for just the right location to expand into other popular areas of San Diego," said Carlos Aceves, director of operations, in an announcement. "Del Mar Plaza couldn't be a more perfect location in which to blend our unique menu offerings with a beautiful ocean view location."

El Agave will open in the old Flavor Del Mar space, which closed in January of this year.
