If Amy Gunderson can’t lower national medical costs on her own, she’s doing all she can to help others advance the cause.
The 26-year-old works as program associate at La Jolla-based West Health Incubator, where she is passionate about new and innovative solutions toward cutting the cost of health care.
She says “lowering the cost of health care in this country is one of the most, if not the single most, important issue of our generation.”
But Gunderson is also involved in the community. A current MBA student at UCSD’s Rady School of Management, Gunderson has also been involved in the San Ysidro Community Planning Group and the San Diego Regional Association of Governments Special Working Group for the 2050 Regional Transportation Update.
She’s also involved in San Diego Women Give Grants Committee and the Gary and Mary West Senior Wellness Center.
She said she finds inspiration from her boyfriend.
“He goes to work every day with the best attitude I can imagine,” she said. “He loves his job and he gives generously of his time to the communities of District 3, and I know that he just has fun almost every day.”
Advice for young people:
“You are young, so don’t worry if you aren’t sure yet, don’t know where something will lead. Just keep moving forward, pursuing whatever you have selected now, and know that it will probably change, but every experience is a gift and will bring you a part of you—and it won’t be perfect, but it will be great.”
