Erik Skoldberg Gallery in Del Mar Showcases Original Fine Art

San Diego native and contemporary artist Erik Skoldberg opened his first gallery last month on the top level of the Del Mar Plaza. Skoldberg said he will host an official grand opening ceremony for the gallery on May 2.

Erik Skoldberg describes himself as an action painter, using fluid brushstrokes and layers of colors to create his large-scale abstract pieces. He said it usually takes him a week or two to paint each piece, depending on color combinations and the number of layers.

"I give myself time to digest each painting by hanging it on the wall and living with it," said Skoldberg. "If I'm not still not satisfied, I take it down and continue adding to it."

Skoldberg said most of his inspiration comes from his love of the outdoors and being in nature. He said his goal is to capture the beautiful colors found in sunset scenes, the forest, deserts and oceans and share them with the world.

"It's very universal, but also a really unique style," said Skoldberg. "A lot of people have come in and said the works have had a positive effect on their psyche."

Skoldberg also said the gallery will host weekly art classes for children and adults, to be taught by local artist and art teacher Gloria Skoldberg.
